This basic butter cake mixture can be used as the base for most cakes .
Use your electric mixer to beat together 250gm of room temp butter/ marg with 1 cup of castor sugar and 1 dsp of vanilla essence in a large bowl on a medium speed until light and creamy .
In a separate bowl beat together 3 eggs .
Now add the eggs a little at a time ,alternatively with 1/2 cup of self raising flour to the butter mixture .
Now using a wooden spoon stir through another 2 cups of self raising flour and 3/4 cups of milk .
Stir until just combined .
