Up until the 1950's the majority of sugar was used at home in baking, preserving fruit, making jam and table use for tea and coffee.
Now today 75% of the sugar we eat is from foods prepared outside of our homes.
The majority of the sugar we consume today is in the drinks we consume; in the form of packaged juices, soft drinks and cordials.
Overall our sugar consumption has changed little over the decades, we just consume sugar in different ways.
