WHOLEMEAL DATE SLICE
You can interchange dates with prunes , dried apricots or mixed fruits .
preheat your oven to 180 deg C.
Place 185gm of margarine in a saucepan with 1 and 1/2 cups of lightly packed brown sugar over a medium heat until the margarine has melted .
Remove from heat and add 1 lightly beaten egg , 1/2 cup of rolled oats , 1 cup of pitted and chopped dates and 1 dsp of grated orange peel .
Stir well .
Stir into the oats mixture 1 and 1/2 cups of wholemeal self raising flour until thoroughly combined .
Spread the dough into a greased slice pan ( 28 x 18 cm ).
Bake for 25 minutes , cool completely , cut into slices .
Sprinkle lightly with icing sugar .
Store in an airtight container .
