This is a classic French Canadian dessert.
" Chomeur" means unemployed thus indicating the preparation of this dish is inexpensive.
This is a self saucing pudding which is easy to make with no fuss preparation.
Preheat the oven to 160 D C
The Cake
1.5 cups of self raising flour
1/4 cup of butter
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of milk 1 egg
The sauce
1/4 tsp of vanilla essence
2 cups of brown sugar
2 cups of boiling water
1/4 cup butter
In a bowl beat egg, sugar, and butter together
Add the flour , alternating with milk.
pour the batter into a greased cake tin or a deep pie dish .
Mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a small saucepan ,
Boil for two minutes
Pour over the top of the cake batter
Bake for 45 - 50 minutes , should be golden brown .
Let the pudding stand for 5 minutes and it stops bubbling.
Serve with a vanilla ice cream or runny cream
